Mortadella Day is now a regular event: every year on October 24 we celebrate the “Pink Queen” that accompanies most of our favorite dishes and more.
A bit of history…
For centuries now Bologna has been renowned for the goodness of its cured meats, but first among them is Mortadella, also called “La Bologna.”
The recipe for Mortadella travels through the centuries starting in 1661, when the Cardinal who ruled in the City on behalf of Alexander VII, circulated legislation to protect the product: it then became the first certified product in history, the unauthorized reproduction of which even led to having to pay with fines and/or penalties, sanctioned specifically to protect the original recipe.
Mortadella arrives overseas…
Mortadella Day is also celebrated in America, a day referred to as “Bologna Day,” to celebrate the sausage with sandwich recipes of various kinds.
The celebration is so heartfelt that the hashtag dedicated to Mortadella Day has risen to the top of many charts on social networks, such as X (Twitter), and also boasts numerous dedicated fan pages on Facebook and Instagram.
The event is even talked about in Time, which dedicated an article with origins and trivia to the Pink Queen on its online portal.
