From November 23, 2019 to February 16, 2020, set up on the first floor of the Archiginnasio building, in piazza Galvani 1.
The exhibition “Bread and salami. Bolognese gastronomic images from the Archiginnasio collections” will be inaugurated with a presentation in the Stabat Mater Hall on Friday 22 November at 12.00.
Designed by Alessandro Molinari Pradelli, and organized in collaboration with the Archiginnasio Municipal Library, it will be the first of a series of documentary exhibitions set up at the library and centered on the history of Bolognese cuisine.
This first exhibition will be dedicated to two fundamental and characteristic elements of Petronian gastronomy, bread and cured meats.
Their historical evolution will be illustrated in the eleven showcases of the exhibition through drawings, engravings, books, brochures and announcements.
Starting, for example, from the famous engravings by Annibale Carracci delle Arti via, and passing through the copious artistic production of Giuseppe Maria Mitelli, we will arrive until the twentieth century, with drawings by Alessandro Cervellati.
All the exhibited material, both the one shown in the original and the one that was reproduced for conservation reasons, comes from the collections of the Archiginnasio Library.
During the opening period of the exhibition, free guided tours are organized by the curator at 17.00.

Who is the curator of the exhibition?
Alessandro Molinari Pradelli, journalist and writer, is one of the most important Italian food and wine scholars of the last decades. He is the author of nearly a hundred publications on the history of cooking, popular traditions and rural civilization.
