If you want to know what lies beneath the crystal floor of the Piazza Coperta you can book a guided tour with a librarian: you will discover the remains of the civil basilica of Bononia, the foundations of medieval houses in the area of the Palazzo d’Accursio, and the remains of the Botanical Garden of the naturalist Ulisse Aldrovandi.
Guided tours are for small, unorganised groups of up to 20 people.
They take place on Friday afternoons at 5.30 p.m. (duration approx. 45 minutes), for dates please consult the calendar.
Booking is compulsory and can be made in person at the library information point or by phoning 051 2194400 from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meeting point is in Piazza Coperta in Salaborsa.
For organised groups with their own guide it is possible to reserve entrance to the excavations by writing an email to:
