Jazz musician and trumpeter known all over the world, Paolo Fresu talks about his artistic and working career and his Bolognese parenthesis among the DAMS benches.

Paolo Fresu began studying the instrument at the age of 11 in the musical band of his hometown. After various experiences of pop music he discovered jazz in 1980 and began his professional activity in 1982 recording for RAI under the guidance of Maestro Bruno Tommaso and attending the Siena jazz seminars.
The awards continue in the musical present, among which the honorary citizenships of Nuoro, Junas (France) and Sogliano Cavour, the Honoris Causa Degree conferred on him by the La Bicocca University of Milan, the Honoris Causa Degree of the Berklee School of Music in Boston and the “Golden Neptune” of the City of Bologna. And many of his record productions have also obtained prestigious awards both in Italy and abroad.
Teacher and manager of several important national and international educational realities, he has played in every continent and with the most important names in African American music of the last 30 years. He has recorded over 450 records of which about 90 in his own name or in leadership and others with international collaborations, often working with ‘mixed’ projects ranging from jazz to ethnic music, from world music to ancient, light and contemporary music, collaborating with others with M. Nyman, E. Parker, Farafina, O. Vanoni, Alice, T. Gurtu, G. Schüller, Negramaro, Stadio.
In 2010 he founded his own record label Tŭk Music. He has directed the Berchidda “Time in Jazz” Festival for thirty years and was artistic director and teacher of the Nuoro Jazz Seminars for a quarter of a century. In his palmares, the direction of the Bergamo international festival stands out for a three-year period.
Today he is active with a myriad of projects that see him engaged in hundreds of concerts a year, almost in every part of the globe. He is a testimonial for Amnesty International, the Francesca Rava Foundation and Asia and, in 2016 and 2017, he was the Youth Ambassador of Unesco for Italy.
