Summer 2019 confirms the positive trend for tourism in Bologna and in the metropolitan area.
There are many Italian and foreign tourists who have chosen to visit the city and stay between June and August.
The data for this summer show that in June there was a 6.5% increase in room occupancy, followed by an even more positive July (+ 8%). A trend that is expected to be positive also for the months of August and September, with a clear prevalence of international visitors, which represent over 80% of the total between 14 and 17 August, and an average stay of 2.5 nights. The trend confirms a trend that has taken root in the last three years, with last minute bookings – for which the data could grow considerably – and many foreigners, especially from Northern Europe.
Looking further into the first six months of the year, 2019 is confirmed as positive for Bologna, with data confirmed also by regional statistics. In the period January – June 2019 the overall increase in overnight stays is + 3%, with a particularly brilliant month of June (+ 6.3%). An excellent result thanks above all to foreign visitors, which increased by 10.2%. Once again the ranking of origins sees the United Kingdom in the lead followed by the United States, which registered a + 21% on both arrivals and overnight stays compared to 2018.
Bologna is thus confirmed as a destination much loved by visitors from abroad, thanks also to the initiatives and events of international scope that have continued unabated in the first half of 2019.
