Welcoming for the fourteenth consecutive year a show of special listening for size and variety of ideas with a side dish that tastes of opulence, the Bologna Jazz Festival from October 25th to November 26th is confirmed as the atelier of intriguing exclusive concerts for which it associates with Ferrara, Modena and Forlì, with a sophisticated and collective billboard that oscillate between power and imagination.
The festival offers 33 days of concerts between theaters and clubs, distributed in 9 municipalities and 22 venues, with ten dates in Ferrara, two between Modena and Vignola, one in Forlì.
Among the stars of the subscription concerts in theaters stands out the name of Pat Metheny, twenty Grammy Awards, guitarist par excellence of the jazz crossover (November 26 EuropAuditorium) flanked by Oleszkiewicz and Barber (9.15 pm).
We start with an eye for the trio format of Fred Hersch, virtuoso of the 88 keys (October 25, Unipol Auditorium). There is waiting for the concert of the singer Dianne Reeves (October 31, Teatro Duse), heir to jazz divas between jazz and pop, which turns every repertoire choice into a perfect jazz song. A touch of glamor to fame came from the appearance in the Clooney movie Good Night and Good Luck.
The appointment of Stefano Bollani and Chuco Valdes (Piano a Piano) on November 1st at the EuropAuditorium is extra luxury. There will also be a cross for the trio with the Cross Currents (Unipol Auditorium): that is Dave Holland, top bass player in the history of jazz, a swinging mainstream in which the tension string remains high, Zakir Hussain, an Indian virtuoso of the tabla and Chris Potter , appreciated sax stylist.
On November 15, on the same stage Hermeto Pascoal, the sorcerer, as they call him in Brazil, multi-instrumentalist with the sense of the bizarre able to inspire Miles Davis and to seduce Nascimento, able to orient his ‘Grupo’ for an animistic religion in sounds that wink at jazz.
The absolute novelty of the festival is the Camera-Jazz & Music Club (vicolo Alemagna) which will host the trio of pianist and singer Dena DeRose, Tom Kirkpatrick pianist Michael Weiss (on the 16th) and the quartet all stars directed by Piero Odorici (on the 21st) . Meetings also at the Sonato Market and at the Locomotiv.
