A new entrance-foyer of the Teatro Comunale and Via del Guasto as a square, bigger and more beautiful.
Stained glass and terraces to connect and open the theater and its activities to the city. It is the great redevelopment project that also includes Largo Respighi and Piazza Verdi, for which the Municipality of Bologna in the summer opened an international ideas competition (closed on September 16th).
Fifteen the ideas presented and one the winning one, illustrated at a press conference by superintendent Fulvio Macciardi, the councilors Matteo Lepore and Valentina Orioli. Competition winner, the Cesena architect Luigi Orioli who leads the O2a studio active in Bologna and Cesena.
The winning project
“There will be – the winning architect explains – an entrance on the Via del Guasto side, where an artifact will be demolished, with a glass construction and an external metal veil, to effect privacy, as well as a photovoltaic system on the tower roof stage that will be integrated and therefore invisible. The concept is of a new urban lantern: we have proposed a second entrance hosting the ticket office now on Largo Respighi and a new restaurant, as well as a lift as a new access for the disabled “.
“The new entrance reconnects to the theater a bar open all day, while on the first floor there will be new administrative offices and the large rehearsal room, also as an exhibition space. The new large staircase leading to the Guasto garden – he continues – will make it more open and accessible, and will lead to the theater and its terrace. In piazza Verdi, the installation is not touched but light and modular furnishings are planned, which can be used for concerts and activities that are already taking place in the square ”.
