Milan, Florence and Bologna, on the podium of the smartest cities in Italy. This is revealed by the ICity Rank 2019 data.
The ICity Rank 2019 research analyzed the economic solidity of 107 provincial capitals based on 21 indicators of economic consistency, creation of job opportunities, innovation of the entrepreneurial system and production relevant in terms of current results and future prospects.
Bologna reduces the gap from the top by placing itself ahead of everyone in terms of government capacity, second for digital transformation and economic solidity, third for environmental protection and social quality.
Milan is the most economically solid Italian reality, able to combine the traditional high levels of income production and entrepreneurial consistency with a strong concentration of innovative experiences.
The ranking of the top ten Italian smart cities continues with Bergamo, Turin, Trento, Venice, Parma, Modena and Reggio Emilia, with results comparable to the leading trio in many of the indicators analyzed.
For example, Trento is first in environmental protection and third in terms of economic solidity; Venice second for sustainable mobility, Modena fourth for digital transformation.
The gap between the north and south of the country remains wide.
The top twenty cities in the ranking belong to the central-northern areas, while in the North the cities that have gained more positions than in 2018 (Cuneo 23, Brescia and Rovigo 20, and Piacenza, 18).
We need to get down to 37th place to find the first city in the South and Islands in the standings, Cagliari, which gains six positions compared to 2018, and only Pescara, Bari and Lecce, among the other cities of the South, manage to move away from the lower part of the Ranking.
