Santa Lucia is celebrated on December 13 in a sort of early Christmas, with lots of gifts for children.
Just like Christmas, waiting for the Santa is a magical event for all children who, at the beginning of December, have to write their letter to tell which games they want most.
The origins of this tradition are uncertain and the cities of the beautiful country are different, but we know that Saint Lucia walks in the night along the streets of the city on the back of her donkey and, assured of the fact that the children were good during the year , distributes its own gifts.
This recurrence revolves around the light. “Lucia” – a name that comes from the Latin Lux, “light” – invites us to welcome the darkness in a different way than in previous years: no longer just as a space for silence, but also where we feel protected, like in a mother’s womb.
On this magical night, we can let ourselves be lulled gently by the night and serenely wait for the rising of the full moon, the light of the maternal archetype, in the darkest month of the year and give us the opportunity to be reborn to new light.
