On 16 November at 6.00 p.m., on the occasion of the presentation of his book, we highlight Franco Faranda’s lecture on ‘The Icon of the Blessed Virgin of Saint Luke’.
Beloved, venerated, awaited every year by thousands of citizens, the Blessed Virgin of San Luca is in its own right one of the sacred symbols of the city of Bologna. How many, however, can say they really know her story? How did she come to dominate ‘la Dotta’ from the top of Monte della Guardia?
With passion, this volume retraces the sources that generated the legend, comparing them with documentary data, and investigates the origin of the iconographic “type” – which developed in Constantinople – arriving at a reasonable dating and cultural provenance.
