Design in Bologna between utopia and business
Stories and architectures that define thoughts and draw new urban profiles: this could be the common thread that connects extraordinary figures of architects and designers in the Bologna of yesterday and today. The proposed tour itinerary for the Design Week event will focus on the spaces of Palazzo Pepoli, a building witness to countless historical events before arriving at its current destination, fruit of the museological vision and creativity of the world famous architect Mario Bellini: become a museum of the narration of the history of Bologna. But the tradition of Bologna in the field of applied arts is not limited to Palazzo Pepoli, indeed it is also visible in the streets and alleys of the historic center that distinguish it and we will visit during our journey: an important urban scenario, so as to have inspired 60s the Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa. The meeting of the latter with Dino Gavina and Maria Simoncini will lead to the creation of the historic shop in via Altabella, today protected by the superintendency: it is a manifesto of creativity halfway between entrepreneurship and the utopian vision rooted in Gavina’s mind. But it is not the only story we will describe … architecture and design are tangible and tangible memories of the city of Bologna and they need a precious component: time to be told.
