A few metres from Piazza della Mercanzia and the Two Towers, there is an intact glimpse of medieval Bolognese town planning, centred on the Alberici Tower.
The front view highlights the portico with its wooden columns as they were until the late Middle Ages, the projecting balconies and above all the ancient tower built by the Alberici family in the 12th century, now 27 metres high, probably taller in the past.
The entrance to the tower is through an original flap door, dating back to 1273 and now the oldest existing in the town. Passing through this flap you now enter one of Bologna’s most prestigious 100-year-old restaurants.
