Pier Paolo Pasolini was born in Bologna one hundred years ago.
The exhibition, to be held from 16 March to 16 October 2022 at Sottopasso – Piazza Re Renzo, covers the whole of his artistic education: from painting, which he learned to love while studying at his Alma Mater in the early 1940s, to cinema, which saw him as the protagonist of a wonderful season in the 1960s and 1970s.
The masterpieces of medieval and renaissance art come alive in Pier Paolo Pasolini’s films, are a constant visual reference in his shots, sources of inspiration.
The Figurative Lightning were the ones that illuminated the young Pasolini’s gaze, the ones that the Cineteca di Bologna exhibition reconstructs by comparing the images of the great pictorial tradition and those of his films, along a chronological path that goes from the debut of Accattone in 1961 to the last, posthumous, Salò 1975.
Curated by Marco Antonio Bazzocchi, Roberto Chiesi and Gian Luca Farinelli.
Promoted by the Cineteca di Bologna, as part of the Municipality of Bologna’s celebrations for the centenary of Pasolini’s birth, with the patronage of Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna and the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Emilia-Romagna Region.
