Palazzo Pepoli Vecchio is the home of the Museum of the History of Bologna of the Genus Bononiae circuit.
Its history begins in 1276, when Romeo Pepoli buys the first buildings of what will become the home of one of the most important families of the city and the first in Bologna at the time of the Lords.
The work to build the first significant nucleus is due to Taddeo Pepoli, Romeo’s son, who returned to the city after his father escaped from the political class as he was considered an uncomfortable character.
The Pepoli family remained the owner of the building until 1910.
In modern times Palazzo Pepoli was the subject of frequent changes of ownership and even hosted a typography in its rooms.
In 2012, after a long restoration by the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation in Bologna, the museum opened its doors to the public, offering an exhibition itinerary structured in different thematic sections distributed in chronological succession and entirely dedicated to history, culture and transformations, over the centuries, of the city of Bologna: from the Etruscan Felsina to the present day.
