Palazzo Malvezzi de ‘Medici, built in 1560 and belonged for over three centuries to one of the oldest and most important families in the city, opens its doors to the public on Friday 27 December with two guided visits, at 4 pm and 5 pm.
The two tours, organized within the “Lightin’Bo” event, will take visitors to admire the eighteenth-century staircase designed by Ferdinando Bibiena, and the noble floor wanted in 1850 by Giovanni Malvezzi de ‘Medici, on the occasion of his wedding with Augusta Tanari.
These spaces and the original Neorocò style furnishings have been restored between 2006 and 2007.
The rooms, rarely open to the public, at the beginning of the 19th century hosted one of the most refined and cultured literary salons in the city, the one held by Countess Teresa, mother of Giovanni.
Inaugurated by the Greek scholar Clotilde Tambroni, it had among its illustrious guests the poets Giacomo Leopardi and Vincenzo Monti.
The palace was purchased by the Province of Bologna in 1931, currently housing the Metropolitan City.
Guided tours are free, but it is necessary to book on the Bologna Welcome website.
