Anticipated by a rich programme of activities that began last December, the spring exhibition season in Bologna opens to the public from 21 March with the widespread exhibition La pittura a Bologna nel lungo
Ottocento | 1796 – 1915, dedicated to painting in Bologna from the Napoleonic age to the beginning of the Great War, promoted by the Settore Musei Civici Bologna with the coordination of the Museo civico del Risorgimento, on show until 30 June.
In terms of the breadth of the itinerary outlined, the number of works on display, and the variety of subjects and places involved, this is the most extensive monographic survey ever organised to present the origins and evolutions of artistic modernity in the Bolognese context, and in particular the pictorial production whose presence is dominant in the figurative culture of the “long 19th century”. More than 500 works, about a hundred of which have never before been exhibited from the deposits of public museum institutions and private collections, by 72 artists belonging to different generations, will be on display in 18 venues located in Bologna, Crespellano and San Giovanni in Persiceto, ranging from drawings to paintings on canvas and panel, touching on all subjects of art: landscapes, portraits, historical subjects, altarpieces, urban views.
