The exhibition Pittori di Pompei (Painters of Pompeii), curated by Mario Grimaldi and produced by MondoMostre, will run from 23 September 2022 to 19 March 2023.
The exhibition is made possible by a cultural and scientific collaboration agreement between the Municipality of Bologna | Museo Civico Archeologico and the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, which provides for the exceptional loan of over 100 works from the Roman era belonging to the collection of the Neapolitan museum, which houses the world’s largest picture gallery of antiquity.
In Bologna, for the first time, a corpus of extraordinary examples of Roman painting from those domus famous precisely for the beauty of their wall decorations, from which they often also take on the name by which they are known, will be exhibited.
Masterpieces – to name but a few – from the domus of the Tragic Poet, of Punished Love, and from the Villas of Fannio Sinistore in Boscoreale, and of the Papyri in Herculaneum. On the occasion of the exhibition there will be a rich didactic offer aimed not only at schools of all levels but also at families and the adult public.
