The Kamigata-e exhibition continues until March 20, 2020: the colorful world of Osaka prints, set up at the Palazzo Poggi Museum, in the Oriental Art Room.
In collaboration with the Far East Study Center, the exhibition will reveal the lively and original culture of Osaka in the early nineteenth century, through a selection of 29 woodcuts from the collections of the Far Eastern Studies Center and the Fondazione del Monte in Bologna and Ravenna, on loan for use at the University of Bologna.
Osaka’s theatrical print production is a separate chapter in the long and glorious history of ukiyo-e. Neglected for a long time by scholars and the general public, in the last decades of the last century these prints have become the subject of in-depth research and important exhibitions, which have allowed us to shed light on a relatively little abundant production, but of great originality and a extraordinary executive quality.
