Galleria Cavour 1959 in Bologna is hosting the exhibition “The Clothes of the Stars,” from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
This is a unique opportunity to dive into the history of Italian Art-Fashion through some iconic dresses from the collection of Cecilia Matteucci Lavarini.
It is remarkable that there are haute couture garments from celebrity wardrobes such as soprano Raina Kabaivanska’s red and orange gown or Valentina Cortese’s blue-purple velvet cape with taftan ruffles and wisteria chiffon one, and that some of them were donated and then purchased for charity (as Cecilia Matteucci Lavarini did by purchasing the dresses from the non-profit organization Baby nel Cuore).
In particular, the Capucci dresses from the 1970s and 1980s are very significant, along with the 1994 Yves Saint Laurent spotted dress that Jeanne Moreau wore to the Cannes Film Festival that year.
The description of Cecilia Matteucci Lavarini as “stylist of herself through the creations of others” offers an interesting perspective on her relationship with fashion and the clothes she chooses to wear.
A small but valuable exhibition that offers a unique insight into the world of high fashion and female celebrities.
