In order to allow the numerous visitors to the Basilica to better appreciate some of the most interesting works that make up the heritage preserved in San Petronio, two new visitor routes are now available.
The first includes the Chapel of the Magi with the wall paintings by Giovanni da Modena and the polychrome wooden polyptych, the Chapel of San Sebastiano with the painting depicting the Saint’s martyrdom and the beautiful Faenza majolica floor, and the Chapel of San Vincenzo which houses, in what was its original location, the faithful reproduction of the Griffoni Polyptych by Francesco del Cossa and Ercole de’ Roberti.
The second is dedicated to the area behind the Altar Maggiore with the carved wooden choir by Agostino de’ Marchi and the organ by Lorenzo da Prato (visible from the presbytery), the oldest in the world. This area houses two exhibitions with reproductions of the panels by Jacopo della Quercia that adorn the Porta Magna of the Basilica and the drawings of the most important projects for the completion of the façade of the Basilica, which remained unfinished.
