Bologna Museums Institution, appointments until February 14th
Every week the Civic Museums of Bologna propose a rich calendar of events, to unveil their collections and tell new and unusual aspects and episodes of the city’s history, also through different points of view and unusual combinations between the different collections. Conferences, workshops, concerts, guided tours, language visits are the main “tools” of this story, which unfolds over thousands of years of history, from the first stone tools of men who lived 800,000 years ago to the products of the current industrial district, from painting to the various forms of modern and contemporary art, from music to great political and civil epics.

“Face to Face” A meeting dedicated to risk management, by Dynamics 360.
The topics will cover Risk Management and integration with Management Systems, Introduction to Risk Management and support tools and intervention on the management of the accident.
All participants will be sent an email with the contents of the conference and the access credentials to the EXSAFE platform – with test opportunities for a month – on the risks in the Property field.
At 5.15 pm it will be possible to take part in a guided tour of the museum.

“Il Mercato della Musica” is a series of meetings organized by the Music Office of the Municipality of Bologna in collaboration with Bologna Welcome, with the aim of developing musical entrepreneurship and strengthening managerial and managerial skills.
The whole journey is a journey and a guide within the music market, through the understanding of the professional figures who inhabit such a complex environment and the activities necessary to create and manage a project.

MAMbo – Museum of Modern Art of Bologna – via Don Minzoni 14
On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna
“Mika Rottenberg” , until May 19, 2019
The artist of Argentine origin, raised in Israel and now based in New York, among the main protagonists of the contemporary world scene, appropriates the impressive volumes of the Sala delle Ciminiere and the museum foyer to animate eleven of his most recent productions – sculptural objects and video installations – famous for their sarcastic and bizarre narrative register.
His research highlights issues such as the inequalities caused by the current dominant economic model and the fragility of the human body, using the lens of humor, absurdity and confusion.

The exhibition project, born from an idea by Saul Saguatti (Basmati Film) and Lucio Apolito (Opificio Ciclope) with the curation of Silvia Grandi and realized in collaboration with the Department of Arts of the University of Bologna, is configured as a device of audio-visual pulsations that arise from the hybridization of different languages, formats and practices of video communication experimented in Italy between 1995 and 2000, telling the electronic dream of a season between analog and digital.
Villa delle Rose – via Saragozza 228/230 – On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna
“Goran Trbuljak, Before and After Retrospective” , until March 24, 2019
Continuing in the direction towards the rediscovery and valorisation of artists active in the international scene, Villa delle Rose hosts the first retrospective in an Italian museum institution by Goran Trbuljak, curated by Lorenzo Balbi and Andrea Bellini.
The exhibition consists of a conspicuous corpus, from the beginning to the late sixties to the most recent productions, which represents the wide expressive vocabulary experimented by the artist: paintings, frottage, monochrome and monograms, photographs, films, books and documentations of his street actions.

“Thomas Struth: Nature & Politics”, until April 22, 2019
Thomas Struth has become famous all over the world thanks to his photographs of urban views, individual and family portraits, large format images taken in museums and photographs of the “Paradise” series. In recent years he has addressed and illustrated a new theme: science and technology.
Many of his scientific and technological photographs, often of great size and composed with meticulous precision, seem at first sight to portray a great confusion of objects, a chaos.
Salone Bank of Bologna, Palazzo De ‘Toschi – Piazza Minghetti 4 / d – On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna
“Geert Goiris, Terraforming Fantasies” , until February 24, 219
The first solo exhibition in Italy by Belgian photographer and videomaker Geert Goiris (Bornem 1971, lives and works in Antwerp), curated by Simone Menegoi and Barbara Meneghel.
The exhibition is presented in an ambitious and innovative setting conceived specifically by architect Kris Kimpe, the artist’s usual collaborator.
The Hall is occupied by hexagonal display modules, some closed, others open and accessible, each of which houses photographs or moving images on its walls. The modules, distributed irregularly, offer the viewer an immersive experience, leaving at the same time the freedom to choose their own path.
Museum of Palazzo Poggi – via Zamboni 33 – On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna
“Christian Fogarolli, Stone of Madness” , until March 3, 2019
“Stone of Madness” creates a connection with the museum’s collections and its function, asking questions on how to approach mental health care through the centuries up to the present day, from old popular beliefs to today’s pharmacological solutions.
For the Sala di Camilla, Fogarolli presents the work “Leaven” (2015), a glass case containing all the diagnostic and statistical manuals of mental disorders from 1952 to 2015 that the artist has collected and purchased. The work is a sort of container that contains all the human folly of the last 70 years: real or alleged disorders that man has diagnosed on himself.
In the following Hall of Landscapes, the artist presents the installation “Allégorie de la Folie” (2018), a sculptural self-portrait in glass and natural quartz that react chromatically if exposed to specific light frequencies. The work is based on ancient popular beliefs, born in the late Middle Ages and continued in the Renaissance, especially in the geographical area of Northern Europe, according to which the presence of a stone in the skull was due to an imbalance of the soul.
Porta San Donato – Piazza di Porta San Donato – On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna
“Patrick Tuttofuoco, ZERO (Weak Fist)”, until 17 February 2019
“ZERO (Weak Fist)” is a project by the artist Patrick Tuttofuoco curated by Denise Tamborrino, Silvia Fanti, Daniele Gasparinetti and Leonardo Regano, promoted by the Polo Museale of Emilia Romagna in collaboration with the Municipality of Rimini, the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, the Italian Cultural Institute of Berlin and XING, winner of the first edition of the Italian Council announcement (2017). Work visible 24 hours a day.
Palazzo d’Accursio (Sala Farnese) – Piazza Maggiore 6 – On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna
“Massimo Kaufmann, Mille Fiate” , until March 3, 2019
“Mille Fiate” unfolds like an abstract narration along an installation of large canvases set up as theatrical scenes: it is an invitation to perceive the atmospheres of color through an impressive tactile decoration in dialogue with the frescoes of the seventeenth century, work of Carlo’s workshop Cignani, which represent episodes of the city’s history.
Accompanied by the suggestions of Epicurean physics, filtered by the reading of Lucrezio’s poetry in “De Rerum Natura”, Massimo Kaufmann’s painting investigates the rhythm of chaos in a series of works dedicated to the “Clinamen”, a Lucretian term that suggests the vagueness of the matter and the imponderability of the case.
Bentivoglio Palace – via del Borgo di San Pietro 1 – On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna
“Jacopo Benassi, Bologna Portraits” , until March 31, 2019
A new exhibition space opens in Bologna dedicated to temporary exhibitions and events in the basement of Palazzo Bentivoglio, in the heart of the city and close to its famous university area. To inaugurate the space is the exhibition “Bologna Portraits” by Jacopo Benassi, curated by Antonio Grulli, which tells the special relationship between the artist and the city context.
“Bologna Portraits” collects a selection of photographs made by the artist during his stay in Bologna in recent years. The central corpus of the works is composed of a series of portraits of personalities linked to the city. Artists, writers, entrepreneurs, businessmen, baristas, stylists, musicians, cultural animators, idlers, actors, etc. One hundred people from the most varied ages, from twenty years to over ninety, who are part of the city landscape.
National Art Gallery of Bologna (Salone degli Incamminati) – via delle Belle Arti 56 – On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna
“Carlo Valsecchi, MAN Gasometer No. 3”, until March 31, 2019
The Hera Group, in collaboration with the Museum Complex of Emilia Romagna – Bologna’s National Pinacoteca, promotes “MAN Gasometer No. 3”, the new project by Carlo Valsecchi: fourteen photographs that narrate in a completely original and original way the metamorphosis of the Bologna gasometer during the reclamation and restoration works promoted by the same multi-utility. “MAN Gasometer No. 3” is a reflection on the evolution of space, which the artist conceives as a body in constant metamorphosis.
Palazzo d’Accursio (Courtyard of Honor) – Piazza Maggiore 6 – On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna
“Eduard Habicher, Uni-Verso” , until 28 February 2019
In the Cortile d’Onore of Palazzo d’Accursio, “Uni-Verso” appeared, a large sculpture by Eduard Habicher, protagonist of a solo exhibition at the Studio G7 Gallery, made up of IPe140 steel beams modeled almost ductile and soft.
The bright red color underlines its great strength and gives off energy. The structure forms a large hemisphere where the visitor can enter, feeling welcomed by a delicate and soft embrace. It’s all a universe that opens up. The space is thus bounded by red lines, and at the same time manages to remain open and fluctuating.
In open challenge with the laws of physics Habicher’s sculptures seem to turn into signs drawn in the air, as if they were drawings or traces of crystallized gestures, able to transmit a strong dynamic charge and at the same time to bring us back, through the combination of materials particular, to the poetic dimension of nature.
The exhibition is curated by Gabriele Salvaterra.
TRIPLE – Via dell’Indipendenza 71 f / g / h – On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna
“Rob Chavasse, Shutter” , until February 14, 2019
The British artist Rob Chavasse presents “Shutter”, a new site-specific work in the TRIPLA exhibition space. The exhibition, curated by Giovanni Rendina and promoted by TRIPLA with Mahler & Lewitt Studios and The Sunday Painter, consists of a full-size mural, printed directly on the walls with an ink jet gun.
Founded in 2016, TRIPLA has hosted solo and group exhibitions of Italian and international artists. The windows of the space are lit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, always visible to the public. After two years of programming, the space starts to close. Show visible 24 hours a day.
Cantiere Modernissimo – via Rizzoli 1/2 – On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna
“Michele Spanghero, Again Anew, Before the Film” , until February 3, 2019
Sound installation site specific by Michele Spanghero, curated by Riccardo Costantini, promoted by Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna in collaboration with Cinemazero di Pordenone.
In the extraordinary space of the site of Cinema Modernissimo, which will soon be returned to the city, the Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna proposes the intervention of the artist Michele Spanghero “Again Anew. Before the film”. The installation is made by drawing on the vast sound archives of Cinemazero, working on the audio recordings of Gideon Bachmann, who throughout his life interviewed and documented the voice of the greatest protagonists in the history of cinema.

“Giovanni Blanco – Domenico Grenci. The Forge and the Splendor “, until March 1, 2019
Giovanni Blanco and Domenico Grenci claim that the function of the museum is to interpolate time, to be able to transform it and put it in relation with other times.
The Davia Bargellini Museum showcases different objects creating a unique story.
The desire for representation that the two artists pursue in theaters is to trace signs and suggest paths. In the lyricism of objects we not only celebrate the aestheticization of things, their forgetfulness, but a spring energy. The two artists go in search of other perspectives to observe this visual heritage.
Medieval Museum – via Manzoni 4
“The faces of the Buddha from the lost Indian Museum of Bologna” , until April 28, 2019
The exhibition, curated by Luca Villa, for the first time reassembles a large part of the collections that belonged to the Museo Indiano of Bologna, now divided and preserved in three different locations: the same Medieval Civic Museum, the Museum of Palazzo Poggi in Bologna and the Museum of Anthropology of the University of Padua.
The exhibition allows you to rediscover a significant heritage of objects and photographs that illustrate archeology and Asian Buddhist art at the time when the Indian Museum, also known as the Museum of Indology and Museum of Indian East Ethnography, remained open since 1907 to 1935.
“Praise for every hour: the Franciscan chorales from the Basilica of San Francesco” , until March 17, 2019
The exhibition, realized in the context of the Franciscan Festival, presents a varied selection of the various liturgical cycles, made between the 13th and 15th centuries for the Bolognese Basilica of San Francesco, which are currently part of the rich collection of illuminated codices of the Medieval Civic Museum from Bologna. Among these we note the series of precious Franciscan grades richly illuminated by the so-called Master of the Bible of Gerona, the absolute protagonist of the Bolognese book decoration of the late thirteenth century. Next to this is also the slightly later series of antiphonaries, also widely decorated, partly inspired by the oldest experiences of Giotto assisiate, evidently filtered into the city through the same order of the Friars Minor. These first choral series followed others during the fifteenth century, when the friars minor entrusted themselves to various miners coordinated by the Bolognese Giovanni di Antonio, to decorate around 1440-50 some of their liturgical books, also presented during the exhibition.

“The soul and the body: Images of the sacred and the profane between the Middle Ages and the Modern Age” , until 24 February 2019
The Civic Museums of Ancient Art are continuing their efforts to enhance the Municipal Art Collections in conjunction with the restoration work on the Palazzo d’Accursio roof, which will be completed in spring 2019, promoting a new exhibition that will revisits the extensive permanent heritage in the light of a new thematic criterion.

“HOKUSAI HIROSHIGE: Beyond the Wave: Masterpieces from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston”, until March 3, 2019
The Archaeological Civic Museum houses the works of the two greatest Masters of the “Floating World”: Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) and Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858).
The exhibition exhibits, for the first time in Italy, an extraordinary selection of about 150 works from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
