The MAST Foundation presents the fourth edition of FOTO / INDUSTRIA, the first Biennial in the world dedicated to photography of Industry and Labor, curated by Francesco Zanot, which takes place in Bologna from 24 October to 24 November, with 10 exhibitions in historic locations of the city center and one of the MAST, by Urs Stahel.
The protagonist of Foto / Industria 2019 is the theme of building: a crucial action, intimately rooted in the nature of the human species that is explored here in its entirety, from its historical and philosophical roots to the inevitable scientific implications.
From cities to industries, from energy networks to infrastructures, from communication systems to digital networks, the Biennale intends to investigate the complex and dynamic system of doing that characterizes the presence of man on the planet. It is this activity that gives shape to the technosphere: the set of all the structures that human beings have built to guarantee their survival on earth.
Through the eyes of the artists, the exhibitions offer an overview of this new artificial layer that mankind has built over time and is developing at a dizzying speed.
The imprint of human activity on earth is also the subject of the eleventh exhibition that hosts the MAST until 5 January 2020: ANTHROPOCENE. A multimedia exploration that documents the impact of human beings on the planet through the extraordinary photographs of Edward Burtynsky, the films of Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas De Pencier and a series of augmented reality installations.
Foto / Industria 2019 provides a rich program of events in the historic center and at the MAST: guided tours with the artists, talks, workshops, theatrical performances and concerts, screenings and activities for the little ones.
Photo / Industry, promoted and produced by the MAST Foundation, was born in 2013 with the aim of sharing with the city the cultural mission of the Foundation, an international non-profit organization linked to the Coesia industrial group, conceived as a link between the company and the community. François Hébel was the artistic director of the first three editions of the Biennale.
MAST (Manufacture of Arts, Experimentation and Technology) is a place of sharing and collaboration that hosts various activities including PhotoGallery, which with its collection of industrial and work photography curated by Urs Stahel and with temporary exhibitions , is today the only institution in the world dedicated to work photography.
