The exhibition “From Matter the Light”, curated by Luigi Codemo and Giovanni Gardini, will open Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Raccolta Lercaro, and will feature works by the CaCO3 collective (Âniko Ferreira da Silva, Giuseppe Donnaloia and Pavlos Mavromatidis) and Davide Maria Coltro.
The project explores the mosaic as a place of transformation, where matter is transformed into light, manifesting time through reflections and glows. Light, movement, matter, time and color are the categories that mosaic art shares with physical research. Light, reflected in the mosaic, reveals the richness and dignity of matter, elevating it to glory.
CaCO3 experiments with new possibilities in mosaic, stretching the tiles and creating exaggerated gaits that emit unexpected flashes of light. Coltro focuses on electronic painting, using technology to transform pixels into tiles that manifest the germination and majesty of color.
The exhibition is part of the 8th Biennial of Contemporary Mosaics in Ravenna (Oct. 14, 2023-Jan. 14, 2024) and the exhibition “Of the Human Dimension. Contemporary Art and Visions along the Via Emilia.”
It will be open until Feb. 18, 2024, with free admission, during the following hours:
Tuesday and Wednesday 3-7 p.m;
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. / 3 p.m.-7 p.m.
