One hundred years ago, on 5 March 1922, Pier Paolo Pasolini was born in Bologna.
He was a poet, director, intellectual and a central figure in the cultural history of the Italian twentieth century.
The Cineteca di Bologna is dedicating a retrospective to him, which will continue in April, presenting all his films, many in restored versions, some in world premiere, introduced by numerous guests, including Marco Bellocchio, Gianni Amelio, Alice Rohrwacher, Ascanio Celestini, Margherita Caruso and Giacomo Morante (the Madonna and St. John in The Gospel according to St. Matthew).
But there will also be a selection of works that have marked and influenced Pasolini’s cinema, youthful visions and inspirations (from The Passion of Joan of Arc to The Children of Violence, from Roma città aperta to Francis the Jester of God), as well as his offspring, films by directors who have themselves been influenced by Pasolini (from Lino Brocka to Martin Scorsese, from Bertolucci to Ciprì and Maresco).
