On 14 February San Valentino is celebrated, an event dedicated to lovers.
According to legend, the saint would have donated to a poor girl a sum of money necessary as a dowry for her marriage, which otherwise could not have been celebrated. The generous gift – fruit of love and aimed at love – would therefore have created the tradition of considering the holy bishop Valentino as the protector of lovers.
Today the Valentine’s Day is celebrated in different parts of the world, including Europe, America and the Far East.
The city of Bologna, in addition to numerous organized initiatives, offers many places that couples can visit on the day of lovers.
In via Alfonso Rubbiani, for example, there is a left corner of the ancient city walls, above the passage of the Torrente Aposa, the only natural waterway in Bologna. Here behind, in an unexpectedly romantic atmosphere there are two beautiful stone benches, perfect for enjoying a moment of romance.
Or the magic window of Via Piella, overlooking the Moline canal, which looks like a little Venice.
Another of the places not to be missed is the panoramic terrace of San Michele in Bosco, where you can admire the panorama of Bologna from above.
