From February 1st to 4th the Bologna exhibition center hosts Arte Fiera, an exhibition dedicated to international contemporary art, with 142 galleries participating.
The event this year embarks on the path of renewal. Under the new direction of Simone Menegoi, the innovations proposed are remarkable.
Firstly, there is an unprecedented criterion of participation for the galleries, which can present only a small circle of artists.
Five major projects are planned: the Solo figura e sfondo exhibition, curated by Davide Ferri, which brings together for the first time works from the public and private institutional collections of Bologna and Emilia-Romagna; Oplà. Performing activities curated by Silvia Fanti, a program of actions by Alex Cecchetti, Cristian Chironi, Cesare Pietroiusti and Nico Vascellari that take place at the fair, on its outskirts and in the city; the teaching laboratories of the Golinelli Foundation linked to the theme “Art and Science”, for the first time present at the Fair; a talk program entrusted to the Flash Art magazine, which inaugurates an all-round collaboration with Arte Fiera as a “content partner”; “Hic et Nunc”, a “no VIP lounge” created by the artist Flavio Favelli and dedicated to the entire fair audience.
Finally, Arte Fiera presents a renovated restaurant: in the VIP Lounge, Il Boccone del Prete presents a revisited Bolognese-style dining proposal, available in the Restaurant and Bistrot versions.
The fair is divided into two sections, Main Section and Photography and Images on the move.
The first is marked by areas of interest, from post-war art to modern art, to contemporary research. In order to comply with the new presentation criteria imposed, over 50 galleries will present only shows.
The photography section, open to video and completely renewed in content, presents photographic practices and videos without limits of genre, techniques and content, favoring dialogue with other disciplines.
In the 2019 edition, the ambition is to offer an overview of the best proposals of Italian galleries, with particular attention to the productions of emerging artists, whether they consider photography and video as a medium, or take them as subjects to be explored and to investigate.
