It is dedicated to the figure of Giovanni Paolo Bedini, an artist born in Bologna in 1844, the fifteenth retrospective exhibition promoted by Bologna for the Arts with the patronage of the City of Bologna, which will be staged in the Sala d’Ercole of Palazzo d’Accursio until 3 next February.
The exhibition, entitled “Giovanni Paolo Bedini. The charm of the carefree 1844-1924 “, curated by Giuseppe Mancini, is the first major anthology focused on the entire production of the Bolognese artist active until the twenties of the twentieth century. The exhibition itinerary consists of about sixty works of public and private origin, which will be accompanied by paintings by contemporary masters at Bedini, with the aim of highlighting a wider “split” of the artistic production of the time.
“I thank Bologna for the Arts that for many years works to promote the art of Bologna and takes care of enhancing it as a common good, says Councilor for culture and promotion of the city Matteo Lepore – and I invite everyone to visit the refined exhibition in the Hall d’Ercole which contributes to enrich the already wide and diversified exhibition offer of Palazzo d’Accursio “.
That of Bedini was a cheerful and lively art, much appreciated by critics and far from any romantic rhetoric, which matured its peculiarities in the vein of neo-rococo and middle-bourgeois style. A tireless worker, Bedini created many works including oil paintings and watercolors that found a wide market both in Italy and abroad.
The artist was trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, initially started up in painting with a historical theme, and soon abandoned it to devote himself to the representation of everyday life more carefree. The exhibition itinerary of Palazzo d’Accursio and the connected catalog, accompanied by critical texts and unpublished images, interpret the artistic path and the evolution of this artist whose works, often set in past centuries, are characterized by a quick and effective touch and they are populated with figures modeled with care, full of life and joyful colors.
For those who want to deepen the themes of art from January 2019, returns “Cultural Dialogues at Palazzo d’Accursio”, the series of conferences held by scholars and personalities of the cultural scene of the city, organized in the Farnese Chapel by the Bologna Association for the Arts.
