On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna 2021 to be held from 7 to 9 May 2021, with a ninth edition with a renewed formula and a very rich institutional program of exhibitions and special initiatives promoted by the Municipality of Bologna, “In nuce”, an exhibition by the artist Maurizio Donzelli.
The exhibition can be visited from Wednesday 5 May to 19 September 2021, at the Medieval Civic Museum, in via Manzoni 4.
The project consists of a site-specific personal exhibition in dialogue with the works and environments of the Medieval Civic Museum of Bologna: a path that invites the viewer to discover unexpected relationships between the precious artefacts and the centuries-old architecture of the museum and the types of works by the artist, from the Tapestries to the Mirrors, from the Drawings of Quasi to the recent monochromes on gold, up to the presentation of the new pictorial series of the Notturni, born as a pictorial meditation on isolation and waiting, between the end of 2020 and the first part of 2021, still unpublished.
In fact, the title of the exhibition, In nuce, highlights how Donzelli’s work embryonicly contains a visual and iconic story that can develop in different, potentially infinite directions: born from the artist’s furtive gaze and capable of uniting, merging and distinguishing languages and forms of different times and geographies. This is the method of approach and dialogue that the artist puts in place with the past and with his iconographies, which inspire his work in a coming and going of emergencies and latencies of signs and hints, surfacing and visual whispers.
