From 29 September 2018 to 20 January 2019 for the first time in Bologna an important retrospective on the work of Alphonse Mucha, one of the major interpreters of Art Nouveau.
The wonderful eighteenth-century halls of Palazzo Pallavicini (Via San Felice 24) will frame 90 of the most famous works by the Czech artist, 27 of which are exhibited for the first time in Italy.
Alphonse Mucha is one of the greatest interpreters of Art Nouveau. Trained in his native Moravia, where he began his career as a decorator, in 1887 Mucha moved to Paris, where he devoted himself mainly to the production of decorative panels, billboards, theatrical posters, magazine covers, calendars and book illustrations. Here female images of extreme elegance appear, defined by a clear line that delimits the contours. This is how an unmistakable “Mucha style” is affirmed, which is also successful in the United States, where the painter stayed between 1906 and 1910. He returned to Europe, settled in Prague, where he remained until his death, working on the great project of the Slavonic Epiphyla , a series of paintings dedicated to the history of his people.
