Last weekend to visit the exhibition dedicated to the glories of the Edo period (XVII-XX century) in Japanese art, to the discovery of an artist like Utagawa Kunisada (1786-1865) often underestimated compared to the more famous contemporary colleagues, like the great Hokusai. ..
The exhibition, set up in the Sala di Arte Orientale of Palazzo Poggi in Bologna, offers a wide variety of ideas of interest: first of all, a selection of 90 Ukyo prints - that is the Japanese art print on paper, printed with wooden matrices, of the Edo period.
It was realized in three sessions, to facilitate the understanding of an eclectic and prolific artist like Kunisada, the greatest author of theatrical prints of the twentieth century, who dedicated a large part of his artistic production to the Kabuki theater, in addition to bijinga, the art of portray female figures.
The exhibition is also an opportunity to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Study Center of Extreme-Eastern Art in Bologna, born in 1987 to spread the knowledge of the art and culture of the East, in particular of China, Japan and Korea.
