At Palazzo Albergati in Bologna, from 20 September 2019 to 1 March 2020, an exhibition dedicated to the great Russian artist Chagall. Dream and Magic.
The works tell the highly original poetic language of Marc Chagall (1887-1985) through the theme of poetic and magical sensitivity.
Jewish culture, Russian and Western culture, his love for literature, his deep religious beliefs, the pure concept of Love and that of tradition, the feeling for his ever-beloved wife Bella, in 160 works including paintings, drawings, watercolors and engravings. A core of rare and extraordinary works, coming from private collections and therefore difficult to access for the general public.
The exhibition is curated by Dolores Duràn Ucar and tells the story of the artist's world of wonder and amazement. In the works, memories of childhood, fairy tales, poetry, religion and exodus coexist, a universe of brightly colored dreams, of intense nuances that give life to landscapes populated by characters, real or imaginary, that crowd into the artist's imagination. Works that reproduce an imaginary dream in which it is difficult to discern the boundary between reality and dream.
The exhibition is divided into five sections summarizing all the themes dear to Chagall: the Russian tradition linked to his childhood, from which he never left; the sense of the sacred and the profound religiosity that are reflected in the creations inspired by the Bible; the relationship with writers and poets; the interest in nature and animals and the reflections on human behavior that found expression in the etchings of the Fables; the circus world, which fascinated him from childhood for his bohemian atmosphere and his thirst for freedom; and of course love, which dominates his works and gives meaning to art and life.
During the exhibition path you will find yourself inside a Dream Room: a video installation - which sees the conception and direction of Vincenzo Capalbo and Marilena Bertozzi - that allows the visitor to immerse themselves in images that are fragmented like the real. illogical perceptions and emotions of the unconscious. In Dream Room Chagall's works are freed in the space of the room, giving life to an oniric environmental work, a superior reality as if it were a sub-reality. The realization is by Art Media Studio of Florence.
